West gateway in Kansai / Japan – Kansai International Airport / Kansai Airport

Opened in 1994, Kansai International Airport is a full-time international airport that provides Japan's leading domestic and international network. The Kansai International Airport, which is used by 29 million people annually, has 72 Megas Peaks in case of emergency. We asked about the background to the introduction and the current inbound situation.

Turning point is Typhoon No. 21 in 2018

In 2018, two Megas Peak tests were introduced. After the introduction, a large typhoon No. 21 occurred, but it was impossible to broadcast in the hall due to a power outage at the terminal. It was recognized internally that it was sometimes effective.

In addition, the staff in charge responded in the case of a normal scale typhoon, but in the case of No. 21, it was not only in charge, but it was a scale that could not be handled unless it handled beyond the boundaries of the affiliation, so mega It was good that the operation of the Speak was easy and anyone could use it.

After that, 70 units were newly placed at each information counter, each area, and security guards for each area so that they could be used throughout the airport. In addition, announcements regarding carry-on are always available at the security checkpoint.

Increasing number of foreign tourists

Previously, it was not seen that there was congestion due to foreign passengers, but at the end of 2014, the number of foreign passengers on international flights reached 7 million, and the congestion situation needed to be addressed. Furthermore, at the end of 2018, it has increased more than twice, to 15.5 million. In particular, the ratio of foreigners to passengers has also changed dramatically during that time, and China and Korea now account for 70% to 80% of the total. For this reason, it is difficult to respond only in English, so we have increased the Chinese and Korean staff, and introduced multilingual translation apps.

Introduced emergency information simultaneous distribution system to display in hall

Currently, disaster drills are conducted twice a year. The content assumes a 21st grade typhoon. In addition to this, the number of times is increased more than before, and the location and content are determined in detail. In that case, Megas Peak is used every time, and the awareness within the company staff is quite high.

A major event in the future is the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, but we do not expect a big crowd. However, because there will be Osaka and Kansai Expo in 2025, I would like to continue disaster prevention measures by repeating trial and error.
